Standing nearly 13 feet tall, The Great Historical Clock of America is one of the biggest objects in our new wing here at @国立アメリカ歴史博物館.

Monumental clocks like this were a spectacular but short-lived phenomenon in the late 1800s. U.S. clockmakers showed off their craft by packing every available surface with elaborate ornaments, astronomical indicators, and celebrated figures from the American past. What's more, they brought their creations to swinging, swaying life via complex machinery, to the delight of audiences across the nation.

The museum's clock, on display in "American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith," would have served as a three-dimensional civics lesson for Americans at the time. Here are a few things to look for: 1️⃣George Washington reviewing a procession of troops and other Presidents, 2️⃣Paul Revere's ride, 3️⃣Robert Fulton’s 1807 steamboat plying the waters, 4️⃣Niagara Falls.

I’ll be back with more from our new wing, #TheNationWeBuildTogether, tomorrow! -Jordan
