You can’t tell from this photo, but our friend Sterling @southwestwildlife is actually a silver variation of a red fox! ​This species is extremely good at adapting to their circumstances, especially when it comes to food and habitat. Red foxes are solitary hunters who feed on rodents, rabbits, birds, and other small game, but will also eat fruit and vegetables, fish, frogs, and even worms! In developed areas where resources are scarce, foxes will even go as far as dining on garbage and pet food. Within residential communities this behavior can sometimes get our furry friends labeled as destructive pests, resulting in the fox becoming a target for hunters.
