This month we're introducing queer art collectives from across the globe to 'Queerate' Tate, and today we welcome Archivo de la Memoria Trans (AMT) @archivotrans to reflect on Simeon Solomon's watercolour painting of Sappho and Erinna. 🎨 The mission of AMT is to gather and rescue documentation surrounding the history of the Argentinian trans community – building, archiving and safeguarding the collection. 'To remember means more than to simply recall a person or an event. It means to feel a moment in the past come alive once again in your heart. Indeed, the heart was once considered to be the seat of the memory. Over time, different artists and activists have come to realise that the whole body can act as a site of memory – we can feel it in our face, our arms, our legs, hair, genitals, hands and feet. It can pulse underneath our skin in our insides, our lungs and in our veins. Here, Solomon imagines Sappho to have returned to Errina after being exiled in Sicily: lovers reunited in flesh, just as their memories united their hearts and bodies in absence.'
