She wrote of the works inspired by this view: ‘They transport me into another world. I cannot express quite what a relief it is.' Carrington responds to the landscape with vibrant oranges and yellows, in a departure from the blues and greens which dominate her earlier paintings of the English countryside, for example 'Farm at Watendlath' 1921 (swipe left to see this one). The enormous scale of the mountains is emphasised by the inclusion of four mules and their riders which are just visible along a narrow path. Carrington plays with scale throughout the painting—contrasting the cacti in the foreground with the steep, rolling mountains and then the jagged peaks in the background—giving the scene a sense of something unfamiliar and otherworldly.」2月3日 2時55分
