“The giant panda team’s commitment and knowledge of animal care was on full display last fall, when Bei Bei underwent emergency surgery due to an intestinal blockage. Following the procedure, our keepers stayed by his side 24 hours a day to monitor his progress and provide food and medicine. At that time, Bei Bei’s digestive system was healing, and our veterinary team recommended that he not eat bamboo stalks. So, keepers provided the stalks to Mei Xiang at strategic times when she and Bei Bei were in separate areas.
