Queen Liliʻuokalani was the last monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom before the U.S. overthrew its government in 1893.
She fought for equal rights and independence, traveling to argue her case to presidents and statesmen.
A gifted writer, composer and musician, Queen Lili'uokalani created works that are still read and sung in Hawaiʻi today. They include the famous song "Aloha ‘Oe" (Farewell to Thee) which she wrote while under house arrest for her attempts to reinstate the Hawaiian Kingdom.
Her book on Hawaiian history is in our @silibraries.

This #WomensHistoryMonth, we're sharing how the American story changed #BecauseOfHerStory.
