This 19th-century contraption is a nifty alarm clock ⏰🛎 In the evening, the owner would place their pocket-watch on the platform above the bell, attaching it to a weighted cord. While they slept, the hands of the watch would turn, causing the cord to unwind and the weight to slowly drop.
The device would then work like a mouse-trap – when the weight touched the spring at the base, the bell would be released and ring to wake the owner!
