Anyone who knows my family knows that we LOVE yiros (or gyros) and it's one of our go-to dinners! Firstly, because they taste SO good... but secondly, because they can be a really balanced meal that gives you everything you need in an easy to eat wrap. You can pick and choose what you want to put in your own yiros, so if you have fussy eaters in your family, they are a great idea. 🙌
This is how I make my yiros at home:
✅ Marinate protein (you could choose chicken, lamb or chickpea falafels) in olive oil, dried oregano, garlic, salt and pepper for a couple of hours before cooking.
✅ When it's dinner time, I'll get a pita bread and lay it out flat on a board.
✅ Put olive oil and dried oregano in bowl, mix it and then brush it onto the bread using a pastry brush.
✅ Put the pita bread in a pan to heat up.
✅ Cook the protein in a separate pan (add some brown onion if you want, it becomes caramelised and tastes amazing).
✅ Take the pita out and spread on some homemade tzatziki.
✅ Add your protein, tomato, cucumber, lettuce or whatever vegetables YOU like!
