I love the freedom of being in a new place and trying new things. I love to get lost in a new city and find my way back without using google maps. There is a sense of adventure in the unknown. I try to learn a few phrases in the local language and sampling the local veggie food. I like trying chai at every new little place until I find the one that's just right, going on a hunt for a green juice or a fresh coconut, and getting to know how to bargain with the fruit vendors for the best selection and price. I like getting so comfortable in a new place so I blend in. There is grace and grit in Hong Kong, a sexy elegance, a harmonious precision, a big melting pot of the world. What makes a suburban girl from Florida decide to travel the world and experience different cultures, views and experiences? Maybe it's the desire to see how we are all the same. Maybe it's the floaty feeling of being present in the travel zone, free from the past, not yet arrived to the future, just here in the space between, ready to turn down an unexplored street and sample the undiscovered truth that no matter where you go in the world it's always a reflection of yourself. Travel for me isn't running away, in a way that's hard to describe it's more like coming home. You discover who you really are when you're outside your comfort zone without all your safe spots. You see different parts of yourself in the mirror of different parts of the world. The only person you'll never escape is yourself. So start making friends with yourself, loving yourself, celebrating yourself so that when it's time to go on that wild ride through life you're ready. ?
