Question: should you try and appeal to as many people as possible or should you find your unique voice and stick to that, even if it alienates some people? I lean towards the latter, feeling like it is authenticity that matters most. I've been told I'm too advanced and that my writing is too complex. I've been asked to dumb it down and make it more "fluffy". I politely declined. _ I generally don't believe we should try and neutralize ourselves until nothing offensive is left. I can be a little pushy, meaning I push limits, of my own and of other people. This doesn't appeal to everyone. I can also be exacting, demanding and set the bar relatively high. I like to dig deeply, to dive in, to study, to find the highest truth. When I set my sights on something I rarely back down. I am persistent and tenacious, perhaps to a fault. I yearn for the good stuff in life and I appreciate quality, whether it's tea, a local handmade craft, a banana, a class on philosophy or a conversation. And while I can be genuinely happy with anything anywhere, I do know what I want when I want it. And while I can be forgiving and sometimes generous, I am not a naturally patient person. _ There's a place inside of me that refuses to believe that we should try and be anyone or anything other than who we are. If you're intellectual, be intellectual. If you're physically gifted and good with you hands, embrace it. If you're a numbers genius or a techie, go with that. I don't think there's value in trying to moderate yourself so you piss less people off. I think there's value is speaking up, pushing back and claiming your space. I don't think we need to try and appeal to everyone, nor do I think we should try. Instead, I think we should get real about who we are and then claim it, own it, love it. Because really if you don't know and love yourself fully and completely, how can you expect the world to? But when you find your voice and give your whole heart to every note that you sing, the tune of your life starts to glow and spread like wildfire. If you could see yourself and all your brilliance you wouldn't want to be anyone else, you'd just want to love the beautiful being that you are!
