“When Sumatran tiger Sparky came to the Zoo in August 2016, he had never produced cubs before. The challenge for keeper Dell Guglielmo was to manage the introduction between him and our female, Damai. Dell spent a great deal of time learning tiger behavior in general, but specifically Sparky and Damai's behavior in order to maximize the probability that she would choose the optimum time conduct breeding introductions. The introductions went extremely well, and Sparky and Damai bred almost immediately. Dell then worked with Zoo vets to get a successful ultrasound of Damai, confirming her pregnancy.
