There’s a reason this Laotian langur’s name is ‘Airport’. As a baby, he was confiscated at the Hanoi Airport before his captor was able to smuggle him out of the country and all the way to Russia. Airport had already been hauled from central Laos to northern Vietnam before he was saved. Because he was stolen from the wild as an infant and had been surrounded by humans his entire life, it would have been nearly impossible to reintegrate him into an existing group of langurs in the wild. Airport is currently the only Laotian langur legally kept by humans and is now well-loved and cared for at the @endangeredprimaterescuecenter in Vietnam. The EPRC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation, breeding, research, and conservation of endangered primates and the protection of their habitats. Established in 1993 as the first rescue center in Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) it's now home to about 180 primates from 15 species, including six species which are only kept at the EPRC and in no other facility in the world. The final goal of these breeding programs is the reintroduction of the animals into their natural habitat. The center also serves as an important training and research facility for Vietnamese and foreign students and scientists. The center greatly contributes to the knowledge about Vietnamese primates and their perilous situations. To see a video of Airport, check out @natgeo!
