Very rarely do I feel compelled check Instagram for a specific reason until recently. This dog in the goggles...his name is Dagwood. And he has captured my heart.
I began following his mom, @briannamadia, earlier this year because of her writing. But last week Dagwood got hit by a car, and since I saw the news I can’t stop checking my phone for updates through Instagram.
I’ve never met Dagwood or his family before, but my heart goes out to all of them. You see, my girl, Puma, was hit by a car 8 years ago and it was by far the most traumatizing thing to happen in my life. And I didn’t have to drive 300 miles to a 24-hour vet to seek help. I had to drive a mile, but that mile felt like an eternity as I sat there holding her unsure of what was going to happen.
I was told I should put her down, but I refused. In college, and with no money, I did everything I could to help her. I would have sold everything to get her what she needed. Just as I’ve read @briannamadia would do for Dags.
The good news is that Puma made it. And she’s still with me today, curled up in a ball next to me right now. She’s a fighter, just as I know Dagwood and his family are. So you guys, keep Dags in your thoughts - he’s in surgery now and it seems he has a long way to go, but he can do it. He’s strong. He’s also a special one.
