Hello Iceland. First stop: the famous Blue Lagoon. Ever since I saw a picture of this magical, unearthly place I wanted to visit. So this is a dream come true.

The @bluelagoonis water is blue because of the naturally high concentrations of silica that color the water opaque turquoise. It is freezing here, actually below freezing, and it snowed as we entered the lagoon. But the water is hot, hotter than a nice warm bath, ranging from 37-40 C/ 98-104 F. The water comes from a lava field that powers the geothermal power plant nearby. It is the largest man-made hot spring in the world. Superheated water is vented from the ground near a lava field and used to run turbines that generate electricity before filling the lagoon. With high concentrations of silica, sulfur and other minerals the waters are said to be healing for all sorts of skin conditions.
