Let's talk about recycling ♻️ There's an awful lot of confusion when it comes to recycling and it is easy to see why, the rules and regulations seem to vary from street to street! ??‍♀️ I recently went to a local recycling plant to learn more about the process and how different materials are handled. For example, corrugated cardboard is easily and widely recycled, while other materials can be a little trickier. Let's be honest, recycling isn't the ultimate solution. The facilities we have in the UK cannot keep up with the amount of rubbish we are producing; so we need to focus on reducing and reusing too ?? However, what we do consume needs to be recycled consistently and consciously and there is lots we can do as consumers to help the process along. Here are my top tips: ➡️ Check your local councils website to see what waste they can and can't recycle. If you want them to up their recycling game, give them a call. ➡️ Separate your recycling into further categories (i.e. plastics, glass, cardboard) if you can, it helps the sorting process. ➡️ Wash out any food containers, contamination can disrupt the recycling process ➡️ Put a cover over your recycling bins, soggy & rained on cardboard is harder to recycle. ➡️ Check the label. Try not to buy things in unrecyclable packaging as this just goes to landfill. When you do purchase items in packaging, try to go for more easy to recycle materials such as cardboard when you can. ? I hope this has helped a little, ultimately I believe that as residents on this beautiful planet we call home the least we can do is "pay rent" by taking responsibility for our actions and consuming consciously.
