#WomensHistoryMonth is ending, but the Smithsonian American Women's History Initiative, #BecauseOfHerStory, isn't going anywhere. You can help us increase the visibility of women's stories—by sharing on social media, learning to edit Wikipedia or transcribing handwritten notes in our collections. Join us at womenshistory.si.edu.

Thanks to a volunteer transcription effort, you can explore the Poro College Collection, which includes this photograph of its trained agents in our @nmaahc.
In 1917, Annie Turnbo Malone opened the Poro College, the first institution devoted to the study and teaching of black cosmetology. With more than 75,000 agents worldwide, the school was also a significant source of employment for African Americans, especially African American women, who sold Malone's products.
Malone became a multi-millionaire and philanthropist, donating to local efforts and financing scholarships. #HiddenHerstory
