Sharpness is a natural state of Pitta, with precision and focus, or bitterness and harshness. Hearty energizing, relatively dry, foods, often high in carbohydrates, can be good for Pitta. Spicy foods are not good, but the ironic this is that most Pitta people actually like them. Caffeine, alcohol and other overly heating or stimulating substances are triggering. Raw fruits and vegetables, dense, grounding food like root vegetables, seeds, and grains all help curb the often insatiable Pitta appetite. Since Pitta is naturally oily, aim for dry, astringent and mild foods to help establish balance. Whole foods that are sweet, heavy and anti-inflammatory such as yams are healing for Pitta. Bitter greens are both cooling and drying, and help balance the skin. The dry chalky taste of legumes is also good. Avoid pungent, sour and salty tastes. _ Day 9 is Meditation Pose. You can sit in Padmasana or any comfortable seated position. You can even sit in a chair if sitting on the floor is torturous. As many of you know I just completed a three day Vipassana course. This was a special course for old students who have competed at least 3 ten-day Vipassana courses. This couldn’t be a more appropriate topic for the challenge today. Meditation balances all the doshas. I felt elements of all three doshas present during the course. _ Things to think about when considering meditation— . *Don’t wait until you feel like you have a calm mind to start sitting. Just start now and work with the mind and qualities that you have *Choose a posture that is truly comfortable to sit. Don’t try and win any awards by sitting in Padmasana if your hips aren’t open. It’s not about stretching, it’s about tuning deeply inward *Don’t expect to experience deep peace from the beginning. In fact, I’d suggest that you set your expectations on feeling distracted, uncomfortable, anxious, bored, unhappy, irritated, painful, and in general just plain old miserable for a good while. But after all that clears, the true light of the inner self shines and it is like nothing you have ever experienced before *Be patient and kind with yourself, forgive yourself and don’t judge ?
